Jesus Alberto García Cruz, a 24-year-old resident of Tracy, California, tragically lost his life on June 3, 2021. Born on March 24, 1997, in La Barca, Jalisco, Mexico, Jesus was known for his vibrant personality and deep love for his family. He was a beloved son, brother, and uncle, whose life was cut short in a devastating incident that also claimed the life of his sister, Valeria García Cruz, and left their father, Juan Rojas, injured.
On the fateful day, Jesus and his sister were
shot and killed outside their home in Tracy. The suspected gunman, Allenray Calamba, 21 at the time, was identified as Valeria's ex-boyfriend. According to reports, Calamba ambushed Valeria as she returned home from work, confronting her in the driveway with a handgun. The commotion drew Jesus and their father outside, where Calamba shot Jesus four times, resulting in his death. He then shot Juan Rojas, injuring him, before turning the gun on Valeria, shooting her four times as well. Calamba attempted to take his own life by shooting himself in the chest but survived and was subsequently hospitalized.
The case quickly moved through the legal system, with Calamba being charged with the first-degree murders of Jesus and Valeria, as well as the attempted murder of their father. The trial revealed the premeditated nature of the attack, with prosecutors detailing how Calamba had waited for Valeria to return home to carry out the ambush. In October 2023, Calamba was convicted of the charges and faced sentencing in December of the same year.
The deaths of Jesus and Valeria García Cruz left their family and community in deep mourning. The family, grappling with the emotional and financial burdens of the tragedy, sought support through a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral expenses. The loss of Jesus, described as a young man full of life and dreams, and Valeria, a young mother with a bright future, was a profound blow to those who knew and loved them. The case highlighted the devastating impact of domestic violence and the far-reaching consequences it can have on families and communities.
