In the late hours of a Saturday in New Orleans, the vibrant sounds of the Marigny neighborhood were pierced by the sharp report of gunfire. On March 15, 2014, a 40-year-old African American man named Atiba Pilart, known affectionately to many as 'Cat Daddy,' was found lying on the street outside a local bar. The New Orleans Police Department received a call regarding shots fired in the area and, upon arrival, discovered Pilart suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the ...
