Michael Paredes, a 42-year-old corporal with the El Monte Police Department, tragically lost his life on June 14, 2022, in a shootout at the Siesta Inn in El Monte, California. Paredes and his colleague, Officer Joseph Santana, were responding to a call regarding a possible stabbing at the motel. Upon arrival, they encountered the suspect, Justin Flores, inside a motel room. A confrontation ensued, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
