David Alcantar-Rodriguez, an 18-year-old resident of Salinas, California, tragically lost his life on December 19, 2022. The incident occurred around 7:15 p.m. on Bradbury Street, near Everett Alvarez High School. David was shot multiple times and, despite being rushed to a local hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. Witnesses reported seeing a white sedan leaving the area shortly after the shooting, although it was initially unclear if the occupants were involved in the crime.

The investigation into David's death was thorough and persistent. Salinas Police detectives re-interviewed witnesses, examined evidence, and followed new leads. Their efforts eventually led them to identify 22-year-old Emiliano Juan Salas as the prime suspect. Salas had relocated to Mesa, Arizona, shortly after the shooting. On April 11, 2023, the U.S. Marshals Service tracked down Salas in Mesa. He attempted to flee but was apprehended after a brief foot chase. Alongside Salas, Iris Lopez, also 22 and a resident of Salinas, was arrested in Arizona. Lopez was charged with being an accessory after the fact in the homicide.

Both Salas and Lopez were extradited to California and booked into the Monterey County Jail. The arrests marked a significant development in the case, bringing some measure of closure to David's family and the Salinas community. The Salinas Police Department expressed gratitude to the U.S. Marshals Service and the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the investigation. The department reiterated its commitment to working diligently with the community to bring perpetrators of violent crimes to justice and to support the victims' families.
