On the morning of February 22, 1980, the lives of 26-year-old Stephen Szladek and his partner, former television actor Richard 'Dick' Kallman, were brought to a violent and tragic end in their Manhattan apartment. The couple, who ran a successful antiques and art dealership from their home, were the victims of a premeditated robbery that turned into a double homicide. Szladek, a male, was found murdered alongside Kallman in their residence.
The investigation into the brutal slayings led authorities to Charles Lonnie Grosso, a man from Queens. It was determined that Grosso had targeted the couple for their valuable collection of antiques, jewelry, and art. During the course of the robbery, both Szladek and Kallman were shot and killed.
Following an investigation, Charles Lonnie Grosso was arrested and charged with the murders of Stephen Szladek and Richard Kallman. After a trial, Grosso was convicted of the double homicide. He received a sentence of 25 years to life in prison for his crimes. Despite the conviction, the full extent of the stolen valuables was never recovered, leaving a lingering mystery in the wake of the senseless violence that claimed the lives of the two men.
