In the crisp late autumn air of November 27, 2006, the life of 16-year-old Christopher Glenn was tragically cut short in a sudden act of violence. A student at Beach Channel High School with a future brimming with promise, Glenn was standing outside his home at 51-15 Almeda Avenue in the Ocean Bay Houses, a housing project in Queens, New York. It was approximately 6:55 p.m.
when the familiar sounds of his neighborhood were shattered by the report of a gun.
The incident unfolded with shocking speed. A teenager, later identified as 15-year-old Sashawn D. Simpson of Arverne, approached on a bicycle. Without warning, he is alleged to have pulled out a 9 mm handgun and fired several shots in Glenn's direction. One of the bullets struck Christopher in the neck. He was rushed to the Peninsula Hospital Center, but his wound proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead. The motive for the shooting was not immediately clear, with some speculation that it may have been related to a territorial dispute between youth gangs, though this was not confirmed by police.
In the days that followed the senseless killing, the community mourned the loss of a young life. The investigation into Christopher's death led detectives to Sashawn Simpson.
