Douglas Mercereau, a 38-year-old male, was a supervising fire marshal with the New York City Fire Department, considered a 'rising star' within the Bureau of Fire Investigation. His life was cut tragically short on the morning of December 2, 2007, when he was found dead in his bed in his Oakwood, Staten Island home. He had been shot three times in the head with his own 9mm service weapon. At the time of his death, his two young daughters, aged five and six, were asleep in the next room.
