At the center of this turmoil was the death of 20-year-old Jerome Scarlett, a male who found himself entangled in the dangerous world of gang warfare. His life was cut short on the night of March 11, 2010, when he was gunned down on Farrington Street.

Christian Sanchez, also known as 'King Chi Chi' and a leader of the Newburgh Latin Kings, was ultimately charged with and found guilty of Jerome Scarlett's murder, in addition to a host of other charges including racketeering and the murder of John Maldonado. Carlos Romero, known as 'King Los,' and Luis Tambito, or 'King Luch,' were also charged in connection with Scarlett's death. The successful prosecution of these key figures was a significant blow to the Latin Kings' operations in the region.
