William Klinger, a 42-year-old Croatian historian, was tragically killed on January 31, 2015, in Astoria Park, Queens, New York. Klinger, who specialized in the history of Eastern European communism, had recently arrived in the United States to attend an academic conference at Hunter College and was staying with a family friend in Ridgewood, New Jersey.
