In the early morning hours of August 24, 2025, the vibrant streets of the New Orleans French Quarter were shattered by the sound of gunfire. In the intersection of Royal and Iberville streets, a young man, later identified as 23-year-old Darnell Causey, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. First responders rushed him to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
