On a Monday afternoon in October 2015, Joseph Daniels, an 18-year-old male, was standing at the corner of Broadway and Woltz Avenue in Buffalo, New York. It was there that his life was abruptly cut short in a violent encounter. At approximately 1:15 p.m. on October 26, 2015, Daniels was fatally shot. The incident was a stark reminder of the gun violence that can erupt on city streets in broad daylight.
The investigation into the shooting was handled by the Buffalo Homicide Squad.
Their work led to the identification of a suspect, Marquille Spencer, who was 20 years old at the time. Following a non-jury trial, Spencer was found guilty of Murder in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. The verdict was delivered by acting New York State Supreme Court Justice Russell P. Buscaglia.
In February 2017, Marquille Spencer was sentenced for the murder of Joseph Daniels. He received a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison. The conviction was the result of the diligent investigative work of the Buffalo Homicide Squad and the prosecution by the Erie County District Attorney's Office.
