On the evening of March 25, 2016, in Newburgh, New York, a 51-year-old man of Jamaican origin named Glenton A. Wright, was fatally shot. The incident occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. in the vicinity of 50 Benkard Avenue. At the time he was attacked, Wright was engaged in a simple act of kindness, delivering homemade health juices to a friend. This errand would tragically be his last.
Originally from Trelawny, Jamaica, Wright had made the United States his home in 1998 and had been a
resident of Newburgh for 18 years. Known affectionately as 'Superman' to his family and friends, he was remembered as a vibrant and creative individual who brought joy to others through his music and loving nature. His death was quickly ruled a homicide by law enforcement, prompting an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The news of his violent death sent ripples of grief through the community.
The loss was deeply felt by his loved ones, particularly his wife, Paula Cook-Wright, and his children. The community mourned alongside them, with over 100 people gathering at the Ebenezer Baptist Church to pay their respects and offer heartfelt tributes to a man described as a devoted family man and musician. Despite the passage of time and the continued efforts of the police, no arrests have ever been made in connection with Glenton Wright's murder.
