Imam Maulama Akonjee, aged 55, was tragically killed on August 13, 2016, in Queens, New York. Akonjee, along with his assistant Thara Uddin, was shot in the back of the head while walking home from afternoon prayers at the Al-Furqan Jame Mosque in Ozone Park.
