In the quiet town of Laurens, New York, the life of 52-year-old Solveig E. Perry was tragically cut short on Tuesday, December 12, 2017. A resident of Laurens, Solveig, affectionately known as Sue, passed away in her home. Born in Cooperstown, she was a mother and grandmother who found her greatest joy in her family. She had married her husband, Tim, just a few months prior on August 12, 2017. Many in the community knew her from her years working as a cashier at Walmart.
Her interests included gardening, taking long walks, and collecting salt and pepper shakers and Coca-Cola memorabilia.
The peaceful facade of her life was shattered when she and her husband were discovered deceased in their home on New Road. The cause of their deaths was determined to be from gunshot wounds. A relative who found them made a 911 call, prompting an investigation by the Otsego County Sheriff's Department. The ensuing investigation quickly identified a suspect close to home.
The couple's son, 23-year-old Kevin Perry, was arrested in connection with the deaths of his parents. Following the discovery of his parents' bodies, a 'Be On The Lookout' order was issued for his red Chevy Colorado. He was spotted by Schoharie County sheriff's deputies and, after a high-speed chase on I-88, his vehicle overturned, and he was apprehended.
Kevin Perry was subsequently charged with two counts of second-degree murder. In September 2018, he pleaded guilty to the charges. The investigation revealed that the murders occurred after a heated argument. Following his guilty plea, Kevin Perry was sentenced in October 2018 to a minimum of 22 years to life in prison for the murder of his parents, bringing a somber conclusion to a case that deeply affected the Laurens community.
