Her mother fondly remembered her playful nature, recalling a time she found Laylah by the open refrigerator, having taken a single bite out of a hotdog before placing it back.
The promising
future of this young girl was extinguished when her own father shot her. The incident was part of a horrifying triple murder-suicide, in which her father took two other lives before taking his own. The violent end to Laylah's life was a result of her father's rage, leaving her mother with an unimaginable depth of grief.
Because the perpetrator of this tragedy was Laylah's father, who subsequently committed suicide, there was no arrest or trial. The case concluded with the deaths of both the victim and the person responsible for her murder, leaving a family and a community to mourn the senseless loss of an innocent child.
