In the early hours of March 24, 2018, a tragic series of events unfolded in Hempstead, New York, culminating in the death of 23-year-old Ravino Bailey. Bailey, a male resident of Uniondale, was discovered by police responding to a 911 call about a single-car crash at the corner of Boylston and Chamberlain streets around 1:50 a.m. He was found with a stab wound to his chest and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later.

Bailey's death quickly revealed that the car crash was a desperate attempt by the young man to seek help after being attacked. The stabbing had not occurred at the scene of the crash, but rather at a residence on Dartmouth Street, just a couple of blocks away. The preceding evening, on March 23, 2018, an altercation had taken place between Ravino Bailey and another man, Shavon Goins. Goins had reportedly threatened to kill Bailey during this initial dispute.
Hours later, in the early morning of March 24, Goins returned to the Dartmouth Street home where Bailey was. He kicked in the door to gain entry and then stabbed Bailey twice with a kitchen knife, once in the arm and once in the heart. After the attack, Bailey managed to stumble out of the house and get into his car, attempting to drive to a hospital before losing consciousness and crashing.
Following the murder, Shavon Goins fled the state in an attempt to evade capture. However, through the collaborative efforts of the Nassau County Police Department and U.S. Marshals, Goins was located and apprehended in Montgomery, Alabama, in April 2018. Goins, who was 24 at the time of his arrest, was charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. The motive for the murder was described as a romantic rivalry between the two men. In December 2019, a jury convicted Shavon Goins on both charges. Subsequently, he was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the murder of Ravino Bailey.
