A dispute at a house party on Hagen Street in Buffalo, New York, on the night of August 4, 2018, tragically cut short the life of Santana Anderson, a 26-year-old woman. The incident, which occurred shortly before 11 p.m., also resulted in another woman suffering non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to her legs. First responders rushed both victims to Erie County Medical Center, but Anderson succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.
She was a mother to a five-year-old daughter and a two-year-old son.
The investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of Lemuele Jackson, a 31-year-old man from Buffalo. Authorities charged Jackson with second-degree murder, attempted murder, and criminal possession of a weapon. The subsequent legal proceedings revealed that the shooting stemmed from a dispute involving Jackson's sister and a group of people earlier that evening. During the trial, it was established that Jackson fired multiple shots into a crowd of people outside the party.
After a trial that included a mistrial due to juror misconduct, a jury found Lemuele Jackson guilty of second-degree murder, reckless endangerment, and criminal possession of a weapon. In February 2020, a judge sentenced Jackson, who was considered a persistent violent felony offender, to 32 years to life in prison. During the sentencing, the judge referred to him as a 'cold-blooded murderer' and acknowledged the profound impact of Anderson's death on her family and the community.
