In the early morning hours of a summer day in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, the life of a young father was tragically cut short. Just before 5 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2019, police responded to a call and discovered the body of 29-year-old Malik T. Russell. He was found with a fatal gunshot wound to his chest, lying near a pile of garbage bags on Chauncey Street.
