On a late summer evening in Queens, New York, the life of 21-year-old Marcellus Shields was tragically cut short by gunfire. The male victim, identified as a Black man, was killed on August 26, 2019, in the Rosedale neighborhood. Shields and his friend, 23-year-old Antoine Folkes, were sitting inside a Kia sedan when the attack occurred.
The violence unfolded when a white SUV reportedly drove past their vehicle, made a U-turn, and then individuals inside the SUV opened fire on Shields
and Folkes. Both men sustained multiple gunshot wounds to their bodies and were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. The sudden eruption of violence left the residential area shaken, with some neighbors initially mistaking the sound of gunshots for firecrackers.
Investigators began exploring connections between the double homicide and another fatal shooting that had occurred just hours earlier in the nearby area of Springfield Gardens. In that incident, David Hutchinson, an acquaintance of Folkes, was also shot and killed in a drive-by attack involving a white vehicle. This raised the possibility that the killings were linked and potentially gang-related, suggesting that Shields and Folkes may have been targeted.
In the wake of the deadly shootings, the New York Police Department launched an investigation, seeking information about the suspects described as three unknown men who fled in the white SUV. Despite their efforts and public appeals for information, which included a reward, the case has grown cold. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the murders of Marcellus Shields and Antoine Folkes, leaving their families and community still searching for answers and justice. The investigation into the triple homicide from that violent day in Queens remains ongoing.
