Jened Duncan, a 24-year-old female, was tragically killed on Sunday, November 10, 2019, in a violent encounter in a Brooklyn apartment. The aspiring teacher's life was cut short when her ex-boyfriend, 30-year-old Darnell Solomon, forced his way into the Utica Avenue residence in the Flatlands neighborhood. Inside, a confrontation ensued that would leave two dead and one seriously injured.
In a fit of jealousy, Solomon opened fire, striking Jened in the head.
He also shot her new boyfriend, Miguel McLawrence, in the chest. After shooting both individuals, Darnell Solomon then turned the gun on himself, sustaining a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Police were called to the second-floor apartment around 2 p.m. following reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, they discovered a grim scene in the living room.
Both Jened Duncan and Darnell Solomon were found unconscious and unresponsive at the location. They were transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, where both were pronounced dead. Miguel McLawrence, who was 33 years old at the time, was found conscious and was taken to Brookdale Hospital in stable condition and was expected to survive his injuries. The incident was investigated by the NYPD as a murder-suicide. As the perpetrator, Darnell Solomon, died at the scene, no arrests were made in connection with Jened Duncan's death. The event was noted as the third domestic violence-related murder-suicide in New York City in less than a week.
