In the early morning hours of February 20, 2020, the life of 19-year-old Daqwan Marshall, a Black male, was cut short by gunfire in Buffalo, New York. Police were called to a residence on Kamper Avenue just before 1:30 a.m. where they discovered Marshall inside the home, having been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators with the Buffalo Police Department believe the shooting was not a random act and that Marshall was likely targeted.
Despite their ongoing investigation into the homicide, no arrests have been made in the case. Authorities have reached out to the public for assistance, offering a reward of up to $7,500 for information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for Marshall's death. The case remains one of several unsolved murders in the city.
Further reports revealed that the house on Kamper Avenue where Marshall was killed was operating as an unlicensed Airbnb. Records from 2018 indicate that Daqwan Marshall had previous encounters with law enforcement. At the age of 17, he was charged in connection with two separate robberies at SUNY Buffalo State dormitory halls. In one incident, he and an accomplice were accused of displaying a handgun and stealing a backpack containing a credit card and cell phone. In another, he and a different accomplice were accused of forcibly stealing backpacks and cell phones from two victims. He faced charges of robbery, burglary, and criminal use of a firearm, with a potential maximum sentence of 25 years in prison if convicted of all charges from the first incident.
