In the quiet pre-dawn hours of April 16, 2020, the community of Amityville, New York, was disturbed by the sound of gunshots. A 25-year-old Black male named Romario Williams was found lying on the ground on Park Avenue with a gunshot wound. The discovery was made by Amityville Police officers and Suffolk County Police First Precinct officers who had responded to a call of shots fired around 5:15 a.m.
Originally from Flushing, Queens, Williams was quickly attended to by the Amityville
Fire Department and transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip. Tragically, the medical staff's efforts were in vain, and he was pronounced dead. The Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad took over the investigation, determining that the shooting had occurred at the Amityville residence.
