On a summer evening in Amityville, New York, a dispute escalated into deadly violence, claiming the life of Elbert Wright. The 28-year-old male from Massapequa was fatally shot on July 31, 2020, following an altercation on Somerset Road North. When Suffolk County Police officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 6:30 p.m., they discovered Wright at the scene with a fatal gunshot wound.
The individual responsible for the shooting had already fled the area before law enforcement arrived.
The investigation into Elbert Wright's death led authorities to identify a suspect, Colin Jerrick. An arrest warrant was subsequently issued for Jerrick, who is also wanted in connection with another homicide that occurred in Wyandanch just weeks prior. In that incident, Ajala Carpenter-Toney was killed and several others were injured during a party.
Despite law enforcement's efforts and public appeals for information, Colin Jerrick remains a fugitive. He is considered armed and dangerous, and authorities have noted his ties to Huntington Station, Bay Shore, Florida, and Guyana. As of late 2022, his whereabouts were still unknown, and the pursuit of justice for Elbert Wright continues. The case has been featured in media, including on 'In Pursuit with John Walsh,' in an effort to gather new leads from the public that might lead to the apprehension of the suspect.
