On the evening of April 28, 2020, a verbal dispute on Millington Street in Mount Vernon, New York, escalated into a fatal act of violence. Kashawn Smith, a 28-year-old male resident of the city, was shot five times at approximately 10:00 p.m. The bullets struck him in the head, chest, torso, and back. Emergency services transported Smith to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
