On a summer evening in the Bronx, 29-year-old Anthony Robinson was walking hand-in-hand with his six-year-old daughter. As they crossed East 170th Street and Sheridan Avenue on July 5, 2020, a car pulled alongside them, and a passenger opened fire. Robinson was struck in the chest and later pronounced dead at BronxCare Health System. His young daughter, who was just inches away, was not physically harmed but was left with the traumatic memory of the event.
The shooting was not a random
act of violence but rather a targeted attack rooted in a cycle of retaliation. Investigators determined the motive was revenge for a shooting that had occurred the previous day involving Robinson's brother. The brazen daytime shooting was captured on surveillance video, which aided police in their investigation. The footage showed the vehicle pulling up and a gunman firing from the passenger side, striking Robinson as his daughter stood beside him.
In the days following the murder, the New York Police Department arrested three men in connection with the fatal shooting. The suspects were identified as 21-year-old Davon Delks, 25-year-old Laquan Heyward, and 27-year-old Devon Vines. All three men were charged with murder for their roles in the drive-by shooting that took a father's life in front of his child.
The tragic story took another turn when, just hours after Anthony Robinson's death, a retaliatory shooting occurred nearby. This subsequent act of violence resulted in the death of two men, one of whom was believed to have been in the vehicle used in Robinson's murder. In connection with this event, Anthony Robinson's brother, Kalvin Robinson, was later arrested and, along with another individual, faced charges including second-degree murder. The cycle of violence continued to claim more lives and devastate more families. In March 2024, Davon Delks was found guilty of second-degree murder in the death of Anthony Robinson and was subsequently sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
