In the summer of 2020, a wave of gun violence in Brooklyn claimed the life of 17-year-old Jahiem Guinn. On the evening of July 24th, the young man was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the head in front of the Weeksville Houses on Dean Street in Crown Heights, the very building where he lived. Emergency responders rushed him to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
The shooting was one of two homicides that tragically struck the Crown
Heights neighborhood that same night, contributing to a citywide surge in violent crime. In the days that followed, community members gathered to mourn the loss of the teenager, holding a shooting response event at the location of his death. The New York Police Department quickly launched an investigation into the killing, seeking the public's help to bring those responsible to justice.
As part of their investigation, police released photographs of an individual they believe is connected to Guinn's murder. The person of interest is described as a male between 18 and 20 years of age, standing approximately 5'8' tall and weighing around 150 pounds. At the time of the incident, he was seen wearing a black t-shirt, dark-colored shorts, white sneakers, and had a red t-shirt covering his head. Despite the release of these images and a description, it has not been specified if this individual is the suspected shooter. To date, no arrests have been made in the case.
