An 18-year-old Black male, Omari Ellis, was fatally shot in Mount Vernon, New York, on July 29, 2020. In the early morning hours, while sitting in a friend's car on South Eighth Avenue, Ellis was struck by gunfire. The incident was brought to the attention of the police during a traffic stop on South Tenth Avenue when the driver, Ellis's cousin, informed them of the shooting. By the time officers were led to the scene, Ellis had already been transported by his friends to Montefiore Mount Vernon ...
