In the early hours of November 1, 2020, a Halloween party on State Street in Rochester, New York, turned tragic, ending in the death of 31-year-old Travis Johnson, a Black male. Gunfire erupted at the gathering, resulting in a double homicide that also claimed the life of Glenn Burden. When Rochester Police arrived at the scene, they discovered Johnson with a gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to Strong Memorial Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation that followed painted a grim picture of a shootout involving multiple individuals. Authorities determined that both Glenn Burden and his brother, Tireek Burden, were involved in the exchange of gunfire with Travis Johnson. The motive for the deadly altercation remained unclear, but it was established that the Burden brothers had attended the Halloween party together. In the wake of the deadly shooting, the Rochester Police Department launched an intensive investigation. Their efforts led to the arrest of Tireek Burden, who was 27 years old at the time. He was taken into custody by a joint effort of the Rochester and Greece police departments. At the time of his arrest, Burden was found to be in possession of a loaded. 40-caliber handgun.
Following his apprehension, Tireek Burden was charged with second-degree murder for the death of Travis Johnson, along with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. While Glenn Burden was also a casualty in the shootout, Tireek Burden was not charged in connection with his brother's death. The case against Tireek Burden was slated to be presented to a Monroe County grand jury, with the possibility of additional charges looming. With an arrest made, the police department indicated that they were not actively seeking any other suspects, though the investigation remained ongoing.
