On a Saturday afternoon in East Harlem, 24-year-old Christopher Caraballo’s life was tragically cut short in a fatal act of violence. The incident occurred on November 21, 2020, in front of the Wagner Houses on Paladino Avenue. Caraballo, a resident of Brownsville, Brooklyn, was attempting to enter one of the buildings at approximately 3:40 p.m. when he was confronted by an armed individual.
Surveillance footage from the scene captured the harrowing moments of the encounter.
The assailant demanded Caraballo's chain, and in an apparent attempt to comply and de-escalate the situation, he removed it and threw it to the ground. Despite his compliance, the gunman shot him once in the upper chest.
Following the shooting, the suspect fled the scene with the stolen chain. Caraballo was discovered gravely wounded on the landing at the building's entrance. Emergency services were called, and he was rushed to Harlem Hospital. Tragically, the medical efforts were in vain, and he was pronounced dead.
The New York Police Department launched an investigation into the robbery and homicide. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Christopher Caraballo. The suspect remains at large, and the case is still considered unsolved, leaving a community and a family searching for answers and justice.
