Danie Philistin, a 29-year-old man, was fatally shot on the evening of Saturday, July 17, 2021, outside a home in West Babylon, New York, where a house party was taking place. Originally from New Jersey, Philistin was a guest at the gathering on Gordon Avenue. The party, which had started earlier in the day, was disrupted by gunshots late in the evening. Investigators arrived at the scene to find Philistin with a gunshot wound.
The incident unfolded when two unidentified men began to verbally harass and inappropriately touch two of Philistin's female friends. In an attempt to de-escalate the situation and protect his friends, Philistin intervened. As he was escorting the women away from the two men, a physical altercation broke out. During the fight, one of the unknown males produced a firearm and shot Philistin in the head.
In the wake of the shooting, law enforcement officials have been actively investigating the homicide. Despite interviewing numerous witnesses who were present at the party, which was advertised on social media, no one has come forward with information leading to the identity of the suspects. As of late 2022, no arrests have been made in the case. Philistin's family, including his mother, Marie Rosental, has made public pleas for assistance in finding his killer. A cash reward of up to $5,000 has been offered by Suffolk County Crime Stoppers for information that leads to an arrest.
Danie Philistin was remembered by friends and family as a leader both on and off the football field. He had a passion for the sport, having played and later becoming a youth football coach, mentoring young people in his community. He held a bachelor's degree in sports medicine from Alfred State University.
