On Aug. 12, 2021, Anthony Ali, a 24-year-old man from Queens, New York, set out for a short drive that never brought him back home; he was described as a U.S.-based Guyanese who worked as a jewelry store clerk and had a knack for fashion and cars.

Late that night in Richmond Hill, he was behind the wheel of a blue BMW when a crash at the corner of 89th Avenue and 116th Street turned tense almost immediately. Investigators said the collision pulled both drivers into a heated confrontation ...
