In the quiet neighborhood of Forest Hills, Queens, a Sunday evening was shattered by the sound of gunfire, leaving a young man's life cut tragically short. On September 28, 2025, 19-year-old Jean Rios was walking home, just blocks from his residence in Kew Gardens Hills, when he was fatally shot. The incident occurred around 7:40 p.m. near 64th Road and the Grand Central Parkway.
Police from the 112th Precinct responded to a 911 call and discovered Rios lying on the street, unconscious
and with a gunshot wound to his chest. Emergency services rushed him to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead. The shooting took place in an area described by neighbors as typically safe, leaving the community in shock.
In the aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement began a search for three male suspects who were seen fleeing the area. According to police, two of the individuals fled on foot, while a third, dressed entirely in red, sped away on a moped. As of late September 2025, no arrests had been made in connection with the homicide, and the investigation remains ongoing. Detectives were reportedly seeking security footage from the area to help identify the suspects and determine a motive for the shooting.
