In the early morning hours of Halloween in 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of a Bronx street corner, forever altering the lives of several individuals. Hednick Wynaar, a 22-year-old male, was enjoying a ride on a scooter with an 18-year-old friend near the intersection of Colden and Adee Avenues. At approximately 12:50 a.m., their path was violently interrupted when assailants in a passing vehicle opened fire.
A bullet struck Wynaar in the head, inflicting a mortal wound.
His 18-year-old companion was shot in the left leg. The indiscriminate spray of bullets also grazed the leg of a 69-year-old woman who happened to be walking in the area. Emergency services rushed to the scene, transporting Wynaar and the younger man to Jacobi Hospital. Despite medical efforts, Hednick Wynaar succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on November 1, 2021. The 18-year-old was listed in stable condition, and the elderly woman refused medical attention at the scene.
The investigation into Wynaar's death remains ongoing, with no arrests made to date. Initial reports from the police described a single shooter, a Black man, firing from a BMW sedan. However, later information provided by the NYPD indicated that four gunmen in a grey Honda were responsible for the attack. In the years following her son's death, Nicole Wynaar has tirelessly sought justice for Hednick. She has repeatedly pleaded with the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of his killers, progressively increasing a financial reward for tips.
