In the early afternoon of December 26, 2021, the life of 34-year-old Dashon Love Borden of Queens, New York, was violently cut short. The male victim was in front of a residence on 146th Terrace near Guy R. Brewer Boulevard in the Springfield Gardens neighborhood when a silver vehicle sped past. Gunfire erupted from the car in a brazen drive-by shooting that shattered the day's calm.
Officers from the 105th Precinct responded to a 911 call about the shooting and discovered Borden with a
gunshot wound to his back. Emergency medical services rushed him to Jamaica Hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead a short time later. Another 28-year-old man was also struck by the gunfire, sustaining a wound to his foot, but he was in stable condition at the same hospital. In the immediate aftermath, police had no suspects, and no arrests were made as the investigation into the deadly shooting began.
For nearly three years, the case of Dashon Love Borden’s death was part of a broader, intensive investigation into a wave of gang violence that had plagued Southeast Queens. In December 2024, the Queens District Attorney's office announced a significant breakthrough with the indictment of eleven reputed gang members. These individuals were identified as members of the 'Whole Blocc Boys' and 'Score On Anything,' which are subsets of the notorious '8 Trey Movin Crips' street gang.
The sweeping indictment charged the eleven individuals with a range of serious offenses, including conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder, stemming from multiple shooting incidents. Authorities confirmed that the charges were connected to a series of violent acts, one of which was the shooting that claimed Dashon Love Borden's life. The legal action was seen as a major step in dismantling the violent street gangs responsible for a cycle of violence in the community, bringing a measure of hope for justice for Borden and other victims. Some of the defendants are facing the possibility of life in prison if convicted.
