In a quiet Queens neighborhood, the afternoon of February 21, 2022, was shattered by violence that claimed the life of a young man. Daniel Ortiz, a 23-year-old Hispanic male from Brooklyn, was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds in the basement of a home on Mexico Street in the St. Albans area. The discovery was made after police responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at approximately 3:57 p.m.
Upon their arrival, officers from the 113th Precinct found Ortiz suffering from
bullet wounds to his shoulder, torso, and thigh. Emergency medical services were immediately dispatched to the scene and rushed him to Jamaica Hospital. Despite their efforts, Ortiz succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later.
