In the late hours of a Sunday evening in Manhattan's East Village, a young man's life was abruptly ended by a single act of violence. On May 15, 2022, Brandon Atkinson was fatally shot in the head near the corner of Avenue D and East Third Street. First responders arrived at the scene around 11:15 p.m., following a 911 call and an activation of the ShotSpotter system, to find Atkinson unconscious and unresponsive. He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
