On the evening of November 18, 1985, a 24-year-old male Baltimore City Police Officer, Vincent J. Adolfo, was on patrol when he noticed a Cadillac with a missing window covered in plastic. His suspicion led him to run a check on the vehicle, which confirmed it had been reported stolen. Officer Adolfo began to follow the car, which was occupied by four individuals, and called for backup. Responding officers set up a roadblock to intercept the stolen vehicle.
As the Cadillac approached the blockade, the driver, later identified as Flint Gregory Hunt, jumped out of the moving car and fled. The now driverless vehicle collided with one of the patrol cars, and the three remaining passengers were apprehended at the scene.
Officer Adolfo pursued Hunt on foot into a nearby alley. In what appeared to be a surrender, Hunt stopped and allowed the officer to approach him. As Officer Adolfo attempted to place him under arrest, Hunt resisted, pushing the officer off balance. He then produced a. 357 Magnum handgun and shot Officer Adolfo in the chest at close range. As the officer staggered from the initial shot, Hunt fired again, striking him in the back. Hunt then fled the scene, leaving the mortally wounded officer in the alley. Officer Adolfo was transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:00 p.m.
The investigation into the murder of Officer Adolfo quickly identified Flint Gregory Hunt as the prime suspect. A manhunt was initiated, and five days later, on November 23, 1985, Hunt was apprehended at a bus station in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was extradited back to Baltimore to face charges for the murder of Officer Adolfo. In June 1986, a jury convicted Hunt of first-degree murder. The following month, he was sentenced to death. After a series of appeals, Flint Gregory Hunt was executed by lethal injection in 1997 for the murder of Officer Vincent J. Adolfo.
