Corporal John J. Novabilski, a 31-year-old officer with the Prince George's County Police Department, tragically lost his life on April 26, 1995. On that fateful night, Corporal Novabilski was working an overtime assignment at a liquor store located in the 7200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Highway. While sitting in his patrol car around 2:30 am, he was ambushed and shot 11 times in an unprovoked attack. The assailant then stole Corporal Novabilski's service weapon.
