In the winter of 2009, a violent encounter in South Baltimore set in motion a chain of events that would ultimately lead to a man's death more than a decade later. On the evening of January 9, 2009, Meron Normac Benjamin, a 31-year-old Black / African American male, was shot multiple times in the 200 block of Maude Avenue. The shooting left him in a stable but critical condition, a state in which he would remain for over 13 years.
