In the quiet evening of September 19, 2011, a tragedy unfolded in Capitol Heights, Maryland, that would claim the life of 47-year-old William Albert Nelson. At approximately 8:58 p.m., the tranquilidad of the 20 block of Sultan Avenue was shattered by the sound of gunfire. When patrol officers from the Capitol Heights Police Department arrived at the scene, they discovered Mr. Nelson lying in the street, suffering from significant trauma to his body.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital in an attempt to save his life, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The Prince George’s County Police Department's Homicide Unit promptly launched an investigation into the shooting death of William Albert Nelson. Through their diligent work, detectives were able to identify a suspect in the case. This led them to 25-year-old Deangelo Walker, a resident of the 5500 block of Dole Street in Capitol Heights. The service of the arrest warrant took place at the Prince George's County Department of Corrections, where Deangelo Walker was already being held on an unrelated charge.
