On the evening of New Year's Day in 2014, a domestic visit turned deadly in Clinton, Maryland, resulting in the death of 52-year-old Raymond Quattlebaum. At approximately 9:00 p.m., patrol officers were dispatched to a residence in the 9100 block of Goldfield Place following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Quattlebaum inside the home, suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the homicide quickly pointed to a domestic-related conflict. Authorities identified 38-year-old D'Juan Renay Hunter as the suspect. Hunter, a resident of Southeast Washington, was the son of Quattlebaum's fiancée. According to the preliminary investigation, Hunter had gone to the Goldfield Place home to visit his family. While there, a confrontation erupted between Hunter and Quattlebaum, which tragically escalated to Hunter shooting Quattlebaum.
Following the shooting, Hunter fled the scene. However, law enforcement located and apprehended him in Bowie in the early morning hours of the following day. Hunter was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and other related offenses in connection with the death of Raymond Quattlebaum. The swift arrest brought a suspect into custody, but could not undo the violent end to a New Year's Day gathering.
