On the evening of May 12, 2025, in Clinton, Maryland, 30-year-old Anthony Traevon Dawson, a male resident of the town, was fatally shot. The incident occurred around 9:40 p.m. in a parking lot located in the 9800 block of Piscataway Road. When Prince George's County Police officers arrived at the scene following reports of a shooting, they discovered Dawson suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Known to his loved ones as 'Mook,' 'Ant,' or 'Traevon,' Anthony was a father, son, and brother. His sudden death left his family and community devastated. In the initial stages of the investigation, the police offered a substantial reward for any information that could lead to an arrest and indictment, as they worked to identify a suspect and determine the motive behind the shooting.
The investigation led to a breakthrough with the arrest of 53-year-old Chelley Thorne of Accokeek. It was determined that Thorne and Dawson were acquainted with each other, although the specific motive for the deadly encounter remained under investigation. Thorne was subsequently charged with first and second-degree murder, as well as other related offenses. Following his arrest, he was taken into the custody of the Department of Corrections and held without bond.
