On a tragic New Year's Day in 2014, 21-year-old Anthony Dionne Turner's life was cut short in a brazen daylight shooting in Baltimore, Maryland. He and his father, 48-year-old Frank Anthony Turner, were walking in the 3900 block of Edmondson Avenue when a gunman opened fire, striking both men multiple times. The father and son were rushed to a nearby hospital, but their injuries proved fatal, and they died within minutes of each other.
The double homicide sent shockwaves through the
community, not only for its brutality but also because it marked the first murders of the new year in Baltimore. Family members revealed that the violence may have stemmed from an incident the previous night, during which Frank Turner was reportedly involved in an altercation and stabbed. It was believed that the shooting was an act of retaliation connected to this earlier dispute. While the initial investigation unfolded, no immediate arrests were made, leaving a grieving family and a concerned community searching for answers.
For more than two years, the case remained unsolved, a painful open wound for the loved ones of Anthony and Frank Turner. Then, in August of 2016, a breakthrough came when Baltimore police arrested 27-year-old Jamal Dunn. Following an ongoing investigation, homicide detectives were able to identify Dunn as the suspect and obtain a warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody and subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of the father and son.
