In the summer of 2015, a violent encounter left a lasting and ultimately fatal mark on the life of Delonio Richburg. On July 26th, in the early morning hours around 1:30 a.m., chaos erupted in the 3500 block of Hubbard Road in Hyattsville, Maryland. Gunshots shattered the quiet of the night, and when police arrived, they discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
One of the victims was 22-year-old Delonio Richburg of Annapolis.
Both Richburg and the other wounded person were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. They both survived the initial trauma and were eventually released. For two years, it may have seemed as though Richburg had escaped the grim fate that often accompanies such violent acts. However, the injuries he sustained that night had set in motion a slower, more insidious series of complications.
On July 1, 2017, Delonio Richburg was again rushed to a hospital for emergency medical treatment. This time, he would not recover. He passed away that day, two years after the initial shooting. An autopsy later confirmed the tragic link between the past and the present, revealing that his death was a direct result of complications from the gunshot wounds he had suffered in 2015. His death was officially ruled a homicide.
In the wake of his passing, Prince George's County police announced that they were investigating the case as a homicide. Despite the passage of time, detectives were still working to identify a motive and any potential suspects in the 2015 shooting. At the time, authorities stated that they did not believe the shooting was a random act. A substantial reward of up to $25,000 was offered for any information that could lead to an arrest and indictment in the case. However, there have been no subsequent public announcements regarding any arrests or the identification of any suspects in the death of Delonio Richburg.
