In the early morning hours of April 1, 2016, Rondell Street, a 27-year-old Black man, was at the Ace Lounge in East Baltimore. As he was in the rear yard of the lounge at approximately 3:46 a.m., an unidentified man approached him in an attempt to rob him. During the confrontation, the assailant shot Street before fleeing the scene.
First responders arrived at the 1000 block of Hillen Street and rushed Street to a nearby hospital.
He was listed in critical condition and fought for his life for several days. However, on April 6, 2016, Rondell Street succumbed to his injuries. His death was classified as a homicide.
The Baltimore Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the murder of Rondell Street. Detectives appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the shooter. Despite their efforts and witness accounts of the attempted robbery, the suspect remained at large. The case grew cold as no significant leads emerged, and the identity of the gunman remained a mystery to law enforcement.
In the years that have passed since Rondell Street's death, his case has remained an open and unsolved homicide.
