In the fall of 2016, a violent encounter in Baltimore led to the death of 29-year-old Shannon Butler. On the evening of October 19, Butler was shot in the 5000 block of Govane Avenue. Despite his injuries, he managed to drive to the 4700 block of Alhambra Avenue, where he crashed his vehicle into several parked cars. He was quickly transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
The investigation into the death of Shannon
Butler, a male resident of Baltimore, led police to identify a suspect. In late January 2017, authorities arrested 30-year-old Curtis Robinson and charged him with first-degree murder in connection with the case. Robinson was subsequently taken to the Baltimore City Central Booking and Intake Facility.
Curtis Robinson eventually faced trial for his role in Shannon Butler's death. In January 2018, Robinson was convicted of second-degree murder and the use of a deadly weapon with intent to injure. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison, with all but 20 years suspended, to be followed by five years of supervised probation. In December 2022, a judge granted a motion to modify Robinson's sentence, a decision that was met with distress by Butler's family in the courtroom. During the proceedings, Butler's sister stated that her brother was stabbed five times over an argument.
