In the quiet neighborhood of Halethorpe, Maryland, the life of 28-year-old Larry Lynch was brought to an abrupt and violent end on the evening of February 4, 2017. The fatal encounter unfolded inside his own apartment, located in the 2900 block of Lakebrook Circle. It was there, at approximately 9:30 p.m., that a burst of gunfire shattered the night, leaving one man dead and another seriously wounded.
When Baltimore County police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Lynch suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite any efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at his residence.
The investigation into the deadly shooting soon painted a picture of an attempted robbery gone tragically wrong. Authorities came to believe that two individuals had entered Lynch's apartment with the intention of robbing him. In a desperate act of self-preservation, Lynch managed to shoot one of the intruders, an 18-year-old man named Omar Mydie Hamilton. However, in the exchange of gunfire, Lynch sustained fatal injuries.
The wounded suspect, Hamilton, was found at the scene and transported to a local hospital to be treated for his serious injuries. Following his release from medical care, he was taken into police custody and faced the full weight of the law. Omar Mydie Hamilton, of Reisterstown, was charged with the first-degree murder of Larry Lynch, as well as the use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime. He was subsequently held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center. The second suspect who was believed to have been involved in the deadly home invasion managed to escape the scene and, at the time of Hamilton's arrest, remained at large.
