In a tragic turn of events on April 3, 2017, 36-year-old Steven Scott Campbell, a male, was found deceased in his Randallstown, Maryland, home. First responders, initially answering a call for a cardiac arrest, discovered the bodies of Campbell and his girlfriend, Chinika Shari Hursey, also 36, inside their residence on Bald Eagle Court. Both victims had suffered trauma to their upper bodies, and their deaths were quickly ruled a double homicide.
Investigators believe the couple was fatally shot in a bedroom of the home they shared.
The investigation soon focused on Chinika Hursey's estranged husband, Dominick Daniel Hursey. Evidence suggested that the killings were not a random act but a targeted attack. In the weeks leading up to the murders, Chinika Hursey had sought and obtained a protective order against her estranged husband, expressing fear for her life. Despite a court order for him to surrender any firearms, none were found when the protective order was served just a week before the killings. Authorities also noted that the crime scene appeared to have been staged to look like a robbery, with drawers pulled out and their contents scattered, though nothing of value was taken.
Dominick Daniel Hursey was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his estranged wife and Steven Scott Campbell. He was held without bail leading up to his trial. In March 2018, a Baltimore County jury found Dominick Hursey guilty of two counts of first-degree murder and two gun-related charges. Following his conviction, he faced a possible sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
