On a summer afternoon in Bladensburg, Maryland, a young life was tragically cut short in what appeared to be a senseless act of violence. Seventeen-year-old Bryan Alvarado-Esquivel was fatally shot on June 18, 2018, in a park in the 5300 block of Varnum Street. The teenager was discovered outside, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The male victim was a student at Bladensburg High School.
Investigators from both the Maryland-National Capital Park Police and the Prince George's County Police Department responded to the scene of the shooting. The investigation into the homicide revealed that the motive for the attack was robbery. Detectives believe Alvarado-Esquivel was killed for several personal items, including a Gucci belt, a watch, and a necklace. Authorities released images of the stolen items to the public in the hopes of generating leads.
In the days following the shooting, police described a suspect they were searching for in connection with the murder. He was described as an African American male, approximately 20 years old, standing about 5'2' tall with shoulder-length dreadlocks or braids. At the time he was last seen running from the area, he was wearing a black tank top, light blue jeans, and distinctive blue tennis shoes.
The search for the person or persons responsible for Bryan Alvarado-Esquivel's death has continued. A reward of up to $25,000 was offered for any information that would lead to an arrest and indictment in the case. Law enforcement officials have continued to ask for the community's assistance in solving this crime and have urged anyone with information to come forward.
