In the afternoon warmth of May 29, 2019, the life of 28-year-old David Mackall Jr. was tragically cut short in a shooting in West Baltimore. First responders were called to the 1900 block of Braddish Avenue around 2:46 p.m. for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Mackall suffering from gunshot wounds to his head and torso. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.

was a Baltimore native and a former college football player, having played for both the University of Maryland and the University of Delaware. Known as a talented linebacker and defensive lineman during his college career, he was also a father to two young children. His death sent shockwaves through the communities that knew him, from his former teammates and coaches to his family and friends in Baltimore. Many remembered him as a happy and intense individual who was dedicated to being a good father.
The investigation into Mackall's murder led to an arrest about a month after the shooting. A 20-year-old man, Kalim Satterfield, was taken into custody and charged with first and second-degree murder, as well as assault and handgun violations. The case against Satterfield proceeded to trial.
However, the legal proceedings concluded with a not guilty verdict for Satterfield in March 2022. His defense attorney argued that he had been falsely identified by witnesses. A jury acquitted him of all charges, leaving the question of who was responsible for David Mackall Jr.'s death officially unanswered in the eyes of the law.
